“The body is held together by sound.”

  • 5 Ways Sound + Vibration Can Support Healing

  • 1. It can shift the body out of stress

Immersive sound can create conditions for deep rest. Studies of singing-bowl meditation have reported reductions in tension, anxiety, and other measures of distress. When we're not continually responding to external demands, the body has more opportunity for its own restorative processes.

  • 2. Your brain can shift into deeper states of rest

Sound influences the way your brain processes. As you settle into the sound, your brain responds to the rhythms, frequencies, and vibrations around you. Emerging EEG research has observed shifts in brain-wave activity during sound practices, associated with deeper states of rest and meditation.

  • 3. Vibration is felt throughout the body

Sound is vibration moving through matter, and we don't experience it only through our ears. Lower frequencies can also be felt physically, making sound an embodied experience. The resonance of bowls, gongs, drums, and other instruments can bring awareness into areas of tension, sensation, and holding.

  • 4. Resonance can help release holding

As vibration meets the body, people may experience changes in breathing, muscular tension, sensation, emotion, and awareness. Sound practice creates space for the body to soften and for patterns of holding to be noticed, and sometimes released, without requiring us to think our way through the experience.

  • 5. Deep rest creates space for healing

Healing isn't something a singing bowl does to you. The body already contains extraordinary systems of regulation, repair, and adaptation. Sound, frequency, vibration, stillness, and attentive listening can create conditions that support those processes—and give us space to reconnect with ourselves.

“The sound of the gongs and the sensations resonating with my body were fascinating and amazing - what perhaps surprised me most and I very much valued is how I felt so different - so settled and peaceful in my body for quite a Long time after I got home.”
